Spring Refresh: Fresh Food & Colorful Tools

We’ve partnered with food and lifestyle blogger Kristen Doyle from Dine and Dish to share a few creative ways to bring fresh ingredients and color into your kitchen this spring.

Ah, spring! The perfect time of year to start incorporating seasonal ingredients into your kitchen. Farmers markets are opening back up to share in the abundant produce sprouting up. And I’ve found some essential tools to help you get the most from your haul of market fresh goodies.

Blue starfish canvas tote $3.99 (compare at $10)

Brights pasta bowl $12.99 (compare at $30)

When you head to the market, one thing you have to remember is that farm fresh produce, especially the organic type, isn’t always going to look perfect. Expect some blemishes and bruises on your fruit. Organic produce is grown without pesticides, so unlike some of the perfect apples you’ll find in the grocery store, organic produce will look a little flawed, but it still tastes delicious. Show off your produce proudly in one of these colorful, large bowls!

8” nonstick Cuisinart skillet $19.99 (compare at $34.99)

The best way to prepare fresh ingredients and still appreciate their full flavors is to keep things as simple as possible. Drizzle a little extra virgin olive oil into a small skillet over medium heat, and then sauté fresh vegetables (like squash, zucchini, mushrooms and onions) with a little kosher salt and fresh-cracked black pepper. The more simple your prep, the better tasting your produce will be.

Prep your veggies in style with a colorful glass cutting board. Not only does this board have a nice, non-slip surface to cut your produce on, but it would make a beautiful plate for serving as well. Spring equates to color, so incorporate color into your table setting, too!

3-piece ceramic nesting bowls with lids $14.99 (compare at $29.99)

No one wants to spend all day in the kitchen when the weather is nice. If you’re having company over, prep your vegetables and fruit dishes ahead of time and place them in the fridge in these beautiful ceramic nesting bowls with lids. When you’re ready to serve your guests, simply remove the lid and place the bowls on the table. Beautiful and practical … you can’t beat that!

Nantucket set of 2 jar glasses $9.99 (compare at $24.99)

Staying hydrated as the weather gets warmer is essential to good health in the spring and summer. Mix up a flavorful pitcher of “spa water” by slicing a cucumber and lemon and adding them to water. Don’t forget to let the flavors “marry” for about an hour before serving! This is such a refreshing way to add fruits and vegetables to your beverages.

Lorina pink lemonade $3.99 (compare at $5.99)

I believe spring should be all about simplifying your life in as many ways as possible. Although fresh lemonade is delicious, sometimes it’s a laborious job. Make it easy on yourself by using bottled lemonade instead. This way you can enjoy the fresh flavors of the season without all the work.

Make this spring a season of flavor and fun by incorporating fresh ingredients and color into your lifestyle. Keep it simple and enjoy!
