Memorial Day Party Ideas

Memorial Day is the unofficial start of the summer season, it brings the promise of carefree days and long summer nights. This year kick off the summer season with a Memorial Day cookout.

Outdoor entertaining is one of our favorite things because it doesn’t have to be elaborate or costly, you just need simple food, great company and a festive atmosphere. Gather your friends and family and grill up an outdoor feast to celebrate the red, white and blue.

With Tuesday Morning it’s easy to host the perfect backyard party. Start by creating the right ambiance with themed decorations. I picked up lots of red, white and blue decor and incorporated them into my centerpiece, table setting and buffet. Don’t forget comfortable cushions and throw pillows on chairs to encourage guest to linger longer and savor the good food and conversation.

When I’m entertaining outdoors I like to set up stations where guests can help themselves. I frequently use my DIY lemonade stand to serve as a buffet for the food. Add vintage Coca-Cola crates or boxes to create height, which will also give you extra space for platters and dishes.

It can get hot hanging out under the warm summer sun, make sure you have a drink station with essentials to keep guests well hydrated. Use a large tray and keep it stocked with essentials like an ice bucket, pitchers of flavored water, lemonade, cups and paper straws.

When it comes to outdoor entertaining make sure you have outdoor safe dinnerware. You don’t have to stick to paper plates, Tuesday Morning has a huge variety of stylish melamine dinnerware. I was swooning as soon as I spotted these blue and white plates, and the best part is they can even be used all year long. Fill a metal bucket with paper napkins and drink coasters to keep them from blowing away.

Keep the food simple. Fire up the grill and toss on your favorite meat. Serve up mouth-watering sides like, Cucumber & Onion Salad and Grilled Mexican Street Corn. Fill treat cups with fresh fruit and white chocolate covered pretzels for a tasty red, white and blue snack. Don’t forget to stock up on lots of other snacks like Tyrrell’s hand cooked potato chips and Popseas kettle corn, I just love that the packaging coordinates seamlessly with our party theme.

When I host a party I love sending my guests home with a little party favor so they can remember all the fun they had while celebrating with us. I filled berry baskets with the Chipotle Citrus BBQ rub we used on the grilled chicken and my famous homemade Spicy Chipotle BBQ sauce.

My favorite Tuesday Morning department: It’s impossible to pick a favorite, but I always gravitate to the Dining & Kitchen and Holiday & Party sections first. I love entertaining and I’m always on the hunt for colorful and unique dishes. And I may have a small obsession with collection cake stands and paper straws!

A little about me: I have been married to my best friend for 14 years, and I’m the lucky mom to our 9 year old daughter and 7 year old twins. I have a passion for celebrating and have been entertaining and throwing parties since I was a freshman in high school. I believe that the little details are what set ordinary events apart from extraordinary events, even in every day life! When I’m not planning parties or creating craft projects for Giggles Galore you can find me spending time doing what I love, traveling, cooking, eating Mexican food and having impromptu dance parties with my kids!

What I love to write about: I have fond memories of traditions, celebrations and homemade gifts from my childhood. My mother was a creative soul who thrived on sharing her passion and talent with others. Fast forward a few years and now I love sharing updated versions of those special memories. I created Giggles Galore to inspire families to celebrate life’s little moments with creative, budget friendly ideas. I love to write about and share tutorials for kids crafts, DIY projects, recipes and of course, my favorite parties! No matter what I’m writing about, one thing is certain, you will find lots of tips and hints for creating memorable occasions with the most important people in your life.

Patriotic holidays are my husbands favorite! And I’m in love with those blue and white plates. Love the idea of using something other than paper but that won’t break.
