We’ve partnered with Jennifer Green, a sweet Southern momma of two who loves any excuse to throw a party and blogs all about her family’s adventures over at Life in the Green House.
Is any time sweeter than summer time? Not around here, that’s for sure. We love finding ways to beat the summer heat, from lazy days by the pool, to action-packed days on the lake, and always with cool and refreshing treats. Ice cream is a summertime staple around here, and no one can deny the goodness that comes with a big bowl of homemade ice cream.
Did you know that July is National Ice Cream month? Yes, that absolutely is a real thing! And that calls for a big bowl of homemade ice cream!
I’m a fan of a fantastic vanilla ice cream. Don’t mistake my love of vanilla as boring — vanilla serves as a base for all sorts of toppings. Another thing I love is celebrating our days, big or small. We don’t need a reason to throw an ice cream party on the back porch on a random Sunday afternoon. Tuesday Morning is my favorite stop for creating a fun tablescape, and I love their endless variety of unique serving pieces and party supplies.
The star of the show was the homemade ice cream, but delicious drinks and fun toppings added a great element, too! I picked up some new favorites at Tuesday Morning last week for the tablescape, like these adorable glass milk bottles. The Honeybee set is a 13-piece set with milk bottles, straws and a wooden tray for serving.
Our table was set with our favorite toppings and colorful bowls. I love scouring the party aisles for fun napkins like these Happy Dots napkins.
I love using a sectioned platter for the toppings. The white boat bowls containing the strawberries are perfect serving pieces. The ice cream spoons come in a set of four and are wonderful to have on hand.
You won’t believe how quick and easy this vanilla ice cream is to make, and the final product is delicious.
2 cups heavy cream
2 cups whole milk
3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
Tiny pinch of salt
- Place all ingredients in large mixing bowl and whisk together until the sugar dissolves.
- Pour into the bowl of an ice cream machine.
- Freeze according to the instructions for your ice cream maker.
- Serve and enjoy!
It looks like we really know how to celebrate National Ice Cream month around here!
If you’re looking for a healthier alternative to creamy ice cream, you should head to your local Tuesday Morning and get your hands on a Swirlio.
Just mix your favorite frozen fruits in a large mixing bowl and run them through the Swirlio to create delicious frozen treats that everyone in the family will love. We made a peach strawberry blend (1/2 cup strawberries, 1/2 cup peaches) and it was the perfect end to our weekend!
