It’s the most wonderful time of the year! You know what I mean … cooler weather, holiday decorating, extended shopping hours (my favorite), spending time with those you love and the list goes on … it really is the best season!
Along with the holidays come holiday parties! Whether it be for a formal, fancy dinner party or a casual girls’ night in, party planning doesn’t have to be stressful.
When I started planning my holiday soiree, I first thought about the type of party I wanted to have. I wanted something fun, laid-back and an evening everyone would enjoy! I considered a few ideas and ultimately decided to host a girls’ night gift exchange. I ran a few ideas by some of the girls I would be inviting and we decided to go with a candle exchange. Some of the other themes I had in mind for my gift exchange were scarves, ornaments, wine glasses and coffee mugs. I’ve also attended cookie exchanges, and those are always fun!

I chose this Yankee Candle for my gift exchange. The price was reasonable at just $9.99, compared to $22.99 elsewhere, and the scent is perfect for the holidays!
Once I decided on what type of party I wanted, I picked a date, made a guest list and got the invites out. I always like to send invites at least two weeks before the event. During the holidays, sending them three weeks in advance is a good idea since everyone’s schedules fill up quickly! In the invite, I requested that each guest bring a new candle wrapped up and ready to exchange.
With the invites sent, it was time to start planning the fun details! I find that making a list is very helpful. Once I made my list, I headed to Tuesday Morning to do some shopping! I picked up some amazing napkins for just $1.99, compared to $6 at other retailers, and this Martha Stewart brand cupcake décor set was a must have! For only $4.99, compared to $10 elsewhere, it had everything I needed to add some fun touches to my food table.
When it came time to plan the food for my party, I decided to do a simple dessert bar. My party started at 7:30 p.m., so I knew my guests would have already eaten dinner. I spotted this amazing, rustic wood, three-tier stand at Tuesday Morning and knew it would be the perfect serving tray! The best part is that it can be used after the party in several different ways. For just $49.99, compared to $89.99 elsewhere, I had to have it! It was the perfect way to add height to the table, create a pretty centerpiece and display the sweet treats!
The burlap runner was another item I added to my cart! At only $14.99, compared to $29.99 at other retailers, it was a great price for something I can use throughout the year. It was the perfect way to add texture to the space and went great with my rustic theme!
For the drink station, I purchased this rustic, galvanized metal stand and drink dispenser for $19.99, compared to $29.99 elsewhere. Just another great Tuesday Morning find that I can use over and over for different occasions! I was very excited to find monogrammed mason jars for each of my guests … Tuesday Morning just happened to have every guest’s first initial in stock! These jars made it easy for each guest to keep up with their drinks, and they made great party favors for the guests to take home with them!
For the rest of the table décor, I used what I had. I added the mercury glass votive holders I bought last year from Tuesday Morning to add a little sparkle! Candles are an easy way to add ambiance to any space.
I also used some wooden crates that I have had for years … they added some height to the tablescape and created some visual interest. I love shopping my home and using items I already own in creative ways!
Tips for Success
Hosting a holiday soiree doesn’t have to be stressful. Tuesday Morning has you covered with great décor, serving dishes, paper goods and party favors! Here are a few more tips to make your holiday party a success!
- Don’t stress – make a to-do list and mark it off as you go.
- Clean your home a few days before the event and then touch up areas that need extra attention the day of.
- Have a friend come a little early to help you set up.
- Set up the food table (serving dishes) the night before so you can just add the food before the party.
- During the party, have music on in the background – it makes people feel more at ease.
- Candles add instant ambiance to any space … and create a more intimate, cozy environment.
- Have fun!! You worked so hard, make sure and enjoy it!
