Home Decor Trends: Decorating with Geometrics

Every year new trends are introduced into the world of home decor. Some seem to come and go and some seem to stick around for the long haul. One trend I have been seeing lately, in everything from floor tile to throw pillows, is geometric patterns and prints. I think this trend is here to stay! From bold patterns to more subtle designs, there is something to suite every style.

While browsing my local Tuesday Morning store, I discovered that they are on top of this trend and have something fitting for every room in the house! With trendy items, a little can go a long way. Today I am going to show you all the great items I found and how you can incorporate this trend into your home!

First up, kitchens… I love the colorful and bold patterns on these dish towels and napkins. For just a few dollars you can add color and interest to your kitchen! Tuesday Morning has a vast selection to go with any color scheme.

I also came across these amazing table runners that would be perfect in a breakfast nook or formal dining room. I love having a variety of runners to change out for different seasons and holidays. These would be great for everyday use as well as special occasions.

Next up, the living areas… a simple way to change the whole look of a room is with new throw pillows. I must admit that this is one of my favorite sections of Tuesday Morning. They have such a great variety of styles, designs and colors. Speaking of designs, check out these great geometric patterns…

If you want to make a bold statement, adding a new area rug is a great way to update a space. These pretty patterned ones would certainly do the trick…

Another way to incorporate pattern and color in a living area, or any space, is with a throw blanket. I love the warmth a blanket adds to a couch, an accent chair or a bed. These blankets would add a cozy feel and a pop of color and pattern!

To make a big impact and bring in a bold pattern, these furniture accent pieces are great options for any room of the house! Talk about a statement piece!

For kid’s rooms, offices and laundry rooms, these storage bins make organizing easy and stylish! Who says organization has to be boring?

Last but not least, it is almost time to update your patio for spring. Tuesday Morning has you covered with cute patterned pillows and outdoor cushions. While it might be cold outside now, these cushions sell FAST! I missed out last year because I waited too long to purchase them, so get them now while you can.

While I love the bold, colorful patterns that I showed you above, my home has a very neutral color scheme and organic feel. What is great about Tuesday Morning is that they really do have something for everyone. I came across this gorgeous wool rug and knew it was the perfect addition to my family room! I simply layered it on top of the jute rug I purchased at Tuesday Morning a few years ago. I am totally smitten with the new look and love the geometric pattern it adds to the space!

I also picked up several of these adorable bowls. A very subtle geometric pattern adds so much character and the neutral colors were perfect in my kitchen!

Whether you love color or prefer neutrals, the great thing about this trend is that it can be incorporated into any home and into any style! Have you incorporated this trend in your home? If so, we would love to hear what kind of items you used… leave a comment below!

Where did you purchase the tall white cabinet with shutter looking doors?

Love this, Lindsay! I’ve been wanting to incorporate geometric patterns in our “too traditional for me” home for a very long time! I’m finally venturing out to make those changes and this post helped reassure me that this trend will stay a around for a while and it’s okay to commit!

Thanks for such a great article on geometrics and the style that is trending still. Sometimes it can be hard to know when enough is enough. I love the fact that you can use a few of the pillows or add a geometric rug layered, brilliant!. Furniture is no longer boring with these intricate patterns. You can even get a little bit of a nautical feel in a room with the geo furniture pieces. Bravo Lindsay for a refreshing Blog! Looking forward to all of your post.

I am a devoted fan of Whimsy Girl Designs, Lindsay Hines, and Tuesday Morning which is located just a few blocks from my home in Pasadena, Ca. Lucky me. Since I am now retired, I can spend time indulging my love of decorating…. On a budget, and using lots of creativity. I did some upgrades a few years ago…. new carpeting for my town home. I first looked at wood or composite flooring but it was just too expensive for me. My question: I miss using accent rugs. Can I put them on top of carpeting? I would like accent rugs under the coffee table in the living room, and in the master bedroom under the bed. I’ve been looking for ideas, but they are sparse. I would love to get some feedback.
    Your devoted fan.

Hi there! Thanks so much for the kind words!! You can absolutely layer an accent rug on top of carpeting! I have done it in our bedroom and love it! Accent rugs are a great way to “define” a space within a room. For example, you can put on under a chair in a corner and create a cozy reading nook. Hope that helps!

Where can I buy the 3 tiered display that you have your dishes in? Cost?

The home decorating pictures in this blog seem more about farmhouse decor than geometric design with exception of the rug. Or Gray designing…
