Plan an Apple Tasting Party

Honeycrisp, Ambrosia, Gala or Golden Delicious? You be the judge! These fall party ideas from Blogger Vanessa Hunt of At The Picket Fence will make the apple tasting, fall decorations and apple recipes at your seasonal celebration a 10 out of 10!

Every new season reminds me of why I love the beautiful state I call home. Oregon is gorgeous any time of the year but in the fall it is literally bursting with color. Here in the Willamette Valley, we are surrounded by acres and acres of vineyards, farms and orchards. It’s truly a feast for the senses! So this year I thought it would be fun to kick off my most favorite season with an Apple Tasting Party with a little bit of help from Tuesday Morning.

For me, the key to hosting a successful party is keeping things casual and simple while still making your guests feel special with fun little touches here and there. It’s so important to enjoy your own party and anything you can do ahead of time will help to make things run more smoothly as well as free you up to visit with your guests rather than spending all of your time in the kitchen.

My own vintage silver platters were turned into chargers at each place setting and topped with simple white plates. Kitchen towels purchased in a pack of two from Tuesday Morning are a fun alternative to the traditional napkin.

Gold toned metal leaves from Tuesday Morning were placed on top of the towel napkins and instantly get you in the mood for an Autumn celebration.

Darling little wooden tags and faux apples from Tuesday Morning make the perfect place cards and add a pop of color to the table setting.

Of course, the most important part of an apple tasting party is actually getting to taste the apples, right? This slate tray provided the perfect way for me to display and label each variety. Take this opportunity to try out some new varieties and maybe even ones that are only available during this time of the year. Ambrosia is my personal favorite!

Now, every proper tasting party must have an assortment of foods that will help to bring out the different layers of flavor in the main attraction. And the food section at Tuesday Morning has so many great options!

A bucket of Kettle Corn provides the perfect sweet and salty combination.

As do honey roasted peanuts displayed in this gorgeous copper mug. Using items in new and different ways adds a touch of whimsy to your table setting and honestly copper and fall just go hand in hand don’t you think?

The spices in these apple cinnamon cookies help to counteract the tartness of some of the apple varieties and honestly they smelled so amazing that it was like I had a scented candle sitting right there on the table.

Archer Farms pumpkin butter and apple butter, also found in the food section at Tuesday Morning, become delicious dipping options for the apple slices. Be sure to ask your guests which one they preferred with each variety of apple.

A simple tray of bagel chips with salami and cheese help to fill up bellies a bit more and is so easy to prepare beforehand.

Now, of course we can’t forget to offer our guests something to wet their whistles and in keeping with my apple theme I created the most yummy drink. I’m calling it my Apple Hazelnut Cocktail and folks, this is a new favorite at our house!

Tuesday Morning has so many fabulous beverage ware options and I fell in love with these darling glasses.

Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t share with you the recipe for this delicious drink so here you go.

Apple Hazelnut Cocktail

1/2 cup of apple cider

3 ounces of Canadian whiskey

1 oz Hazelnut Liqueur

Shake well over ice in a cocktail shaker

For the rim: Pour 1 tablespoon of apple cider onto one plate. Then pour 1 tablespoon of sugar plus a half of a tablespoon of ground cloves onto another plate and mix together. Dip the rim of your glass into the apple cider first and then into the sugar and clove mixture. Pour cocktail into glass and enjoy! (recipe is for 1 serving)
