Celebrating the Winter Olympics
Have you been watching the Winter Olympics in Sochi? We are huge fans of the Olympics here at our house! From the opening to the closing ceremonies and as many of the events that we can catch in between, it’s the one time that our family is really glued to the TV as we root for Team USA and get caught up in the athletes’ triumphs and tragedies. (And personally, I think the commercials are even better than the Superbowl ads.) So today on the blog, I’m showing you a few ideas to bring a little extra Olympics spirit to your home!
One of the things I’ve always enjoyed about the Olympics is getting to learn about a new culture through the different host cities. The games are such an engaging way to get my kids interested in learning about this incredibly diverse planet we live on.
Use these great free printables and let your kiddos pick a few countries represented in the games to learn about!
It’s not too late to throw together a simple Olympics viewing party for friends and family! Our Winter Olympics Pinterest board (http://www.pinterest.com/tuesdayam/winter-olympics-2014/) has some great ideas for easy and fun themed snacks, like this Olympics rings fruit tray.
It’s a little ironic that this year’s host city is experiencing some particularly balmy weather, while the southeast United States just got blanketed by a particularly nasty nor’easter. So if you’re stuck at home and a viewing party is out, why not try making some warm and hearty Russian food as a nod to the games?
This beef stroganoff looks amazing, and it’s the perfect winter comfort dish.
We normally think of Americana-inspired décor for the summer months, but the Winter Olympics are a great time to add a little dose of patriotism to your home decorating!
I love these star-spangled pillows from Tuesday Morning. They add just the perfect touch!
