Beat the Blues with Radiant Orchid

Is it just me, or does January seem like the longest month of the year? The excitement of the holidays is over and it’s time to get back to the usual routine, the house seems so bare after our holiday decorations come down, and the weather is usually cold and dreary—or seems that way, at least. Spring feels so far away!

Fortunately, it’s easy to beat the winter blues by injecting a little pop of color in your home décor and wardrobe. Pantone’s color of the year for 2014, radiant orchid, is the perfect choice to brighten your surroundings and your spirits this winter!

Start Small

If you’re not ready to commit to radiant orchid in large doses, try out this bold color first with simple, quick accents:

Live phalaenopsis orchids on an entry table showcase the real-life inspiration for Pantone’s color choice.

Decorative pillows (like these, which I found at Tuesday Morning) are another easy way to bring in radiant orchid accents without having to overhaul your décor.

Go Bright…

Play up the vibrant side of radiant orchid by pairing it with equally bright, cheerful colors.

I love the way this bedroom uses different shades of radiant orchid paired with bright pinks; the curry yellow headboards really pop!

Update your bedding without breaking the bank at Tuesday Morning: I found this cheerful bedding set by Trina Turk for a great price at my favorite Tuesday Morning location! The chevron pattern has great accents of radiant orchid. It’s like spring in a bag!

Or Go Light…

You can still work with shades of radiant orchid, even if you prefer a more mellow color scheme.

A soft shade of orchid on the walls of this home office lend a feminine and sophisticated touch.

This pale orchid stool is a welcome but not overbearing burst of color to an otherwise neutral room.

Radiant Orchid Tablescapes

Radiant orchid is just as versatile for your table settings as it is for your home décor.

A deep orchid table runner paired with brown and gold accents makes for an opulent table setting.

This soft orchid tablescape would be perfect for an elegant ladies’ brunch.

Try Unexpected Color Pairings

Radiant orchid and shades of gray or white are natural complements, but don’t be afraid to experiment with different color pairings! Radiant orchid is surprisingly versatile:

I love this mix of deep orchid, vibrant aqua, and sunny yellow in this room!

Here’s a great example of orchid paired with last year’s color of the year, emerald.

These bright green vases from Tuesday Morning are a natural complement to radiant orchid.

So, what do you think of Pantone’s color of the year? I hope I’ve inspired you to try using this vibrant color to jazz up your home during the winter months! For more great ideas and inspiration, visit our newest Pinterest board dedicated to beating those winter blues by using radiant orchid!

My favorite Tuesday Morning department: Do I have to choose just one? Craft section and seasonal accents.

A little about me: I’m the gal who always has a project (or two or three!) going on, whether it’s crafting for fun, DIY home decor or even a little remodeling. I do everything but cook! I’m obsessed with great design, old houses, fabulous wallpaper, sushi and hoarding craft supplies — not necessarily in that order.

What I love to write about: I love sharing my favorite craft and home décor ideas on the Tuesday Morning blog … it doesn’t matter what kind of project I’m working on, I know I can find the perfect thing for it at my home Tuesday Morning!
